Naples is the capital of the Campania region in the south of Italy. It is the third-largest city in Italy and arguably the most vibrant. The city's urban charm is attributed to its bustling and densely populated nature, which makes it a great place for tourists to explore.
Renting a car in Naples is the most convenient way to reach nearby must-visit sites, such as the ruins of the city of Pompeii, which was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and of course, the beautiful Amalfi Coast. And don't forget, if you're already in the Campania region, it's highly recommended to savor the famous Neapolitan and Margherita pizzas, which originate from this area!

Still, especially if you plan to rent a car during the summer months, it is highly recommended to book your car in advance, especially if you want to rent a large car, a station wagon, a minivan, or a car with automatic transmission.

It's important to remember that Naples, with its narrow streets and alleys, may not be the most comfortable city to get around in a large vehicle. We recommend picking a smaller vehicle for a smooth ride through Naples, just as the local citizens prefer.
Driving rules in Naples:
◾ Driving in the City
In most historic areas of major cities (such as Florence, for example), entry is prohibited for non-resident vehicles, and fines are imposed for violations. Pay attention to the "Zona a Traffico Limitato" (Limited Traffic Zone) signs.
If you find yourself in such an area, you may likely be fined by the police, and a report will be sent to you after they obtain your information from the rental company. The rental company will charge you handling fees for this report.
Important note: GPS navigation and apps like Waze don't always alert you to restricted ZTL zones.
◾ Highway Tolls in Italy
On most highways throughout the country, tolls are collected. When you reach a toll station, follow the lanes marked "Biglietto" (Ticket) or "Non-marcato" (Not marked) based on your vehicle's size. The toll cost usually depends on the distance traveled and is determined by a card given to you when entering the highway, which you must return upon exit. Some tolls are charged once or multiple times along the route, depending on the size of your vehicle. There are also tolls in tunnels (e.g., Mont Blanc Tunnel). Recently, an app has been launched that allows digital payment instead of physical stickers. For more details, Click here
There are many recommended attractions across Naples, we have gathered for you a number of popular options:
Exploring the Trails of the Neapolitan Novels
In recent years, the city has experienced a surge in tourism due to its status as the epicenter of the bestselling series by author Elena Ferrante. Whether you've already read the series or watched it on screen, you can join one of the many organized tours or explore some of the significant locations mentioned in the books.
The neighborhood where the book's protagonists, Lila and Elena, live has been identified as Rione Luzzatti, although the neighborhood's name is not mentioned in the books themselves. It is situated near Piazza Garibaldi, and some of the notable sites in the city include Piazza dei Martiri and Pizzeria Carminella, who even dedicated their flagship pizza to the author.
Taking a Drive on the Amalfi Coast
A journey in this southern region includes the famous Strada Amalfitana, considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world. It's only about 50 kilometers long, but it's advisable to take several days for this trip, as you'll want to stop and savor every moment on this stunning route.
It begins in the town of Sorrento, which is just a 40-minute drive from Naples, and continues along the coastline to the town of Amalfi. The official name of the road connecting these two towns is SS163, but it's better known as Amalfi Drive. The road winds between the towns of Sorrento and Positano before reaching Salerno and Amalfi. Along the way, you can stop for breathtaking panoramic views of the coast.
