Third party insurance
SLP – Supplemental Liability Insurance Provided by Alamo and National in the USA
Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP) offers third-party liability coverage that includes the minimum limits mandated by the relevant jurisdiction where the rental vehicle is used, along with additional excess liability coverage. This coverage is included at no extra cost to the renter. Combined, these protections extend third-party liability coverage—available to both the renter and any authorized additional drivers—up to a maximum of $300,000.
SLP applies to claims made by third parties for bodily injury (including fatality) and property damage caused by accidents occurring during the permitted use of the rental vehicle, as outlined in the rental agreement, subject to the stated coverage limit. It does not provide coverage for claims made by uninsured or underinsured motorists (UM/UIM), unless such protection is required by law in the state where the vehicle is operated. In jurisdictions where UM/UIM coverage is mandated, the limit provided is $300,000 per incident. The insurance coverage is underwritten by Zurich American Insurance Company.

Within a car rental agreement, the driver, any additional drivers, and/or passengers do not have coverage for medical insurance, bodily injury insurance, or property insurance. Therefore, it is necessary to acquire such insurance coverage separately and in accordance with the relevant insurance coverage conditions.
Third-party insurance is included in CDW insurance for car rentals in Canada and around the world. (for more information about CDW)
Furthermore, certain jurisdictions (such as South Africa) may limit the coverage that is included in such insurance according to local law (e.g., limitations on the account of coverage, events that are covered, etc.). As a result, we recommend that you buy an appropriate insurance policy separately to meet your needs, or you can check with the Car Supplier when you pick up the car to see if it offers any additional insurance coverage.
For the insurance coverage to apply, the renter must report any damage to the car before the rental period ends, keep records attesting to such damage, and follow the instructions of the local police.
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable trip.
