SIPP Car Codes

Main Content

🟨 What exactly do we mean by "SIPP codes"?

SIPP codes serve as an industry standard for characterizing vehicles and serve the purpose of summarizing a vehicle's key attributes. Typically consisting of four characters, each of these characters corresponds to a specific feature. For instance, a CDMR code delineates a Compact vehicle, typically with 4/5 Doors and Manual transmission, featuring Air conditioning.

Now, a CDMR code can apply to a variety of vehicle makes and models, including but not limited to the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Renault Megan, Seat Leon, Hyundai i30, and more.

🟨 Why are SIPP codes used?

SIPP codes simplify the process of comparing different vehicles by grouping those with similar characteristics together. Given the vast array of vehicle models available worldwide, having an organized system is essential.

🟨 If I reserve a specific model, am I guaranteed to receive it?

When you make a reservation for a vehicle, there's no absolute assurance that you'll receive the exact vehicle or model you've specified. However, you will be provided with a vehicle sporting the same SIPP code or even one with a superior SIPP code, resulting in an upgrade.

In practice, it's quite common to receive a vehicle from a similar model within the same car group that you booked. Therefore, it's advisable not to set your heart on obtaining a particular model or make, as the allocation of models across different rental locations is determined by the car supplier's operations. The primary purpose of the SIPP code is to categorize the car group you've reserved.

🟨 Using different car codes

While SIPP codes represent a voluntary standard established by the industry body ACRISS (official ACRISS site: https://www.acriss.org/), car rental companies are encouraged, but not obligated, to adopt these agreed-upon SIPP codes.
Unfortunately, some car rental companies are not affiliated with this organization and utilize their own codes, which may slightly deviate from the industry standard. Nevertheless, it is advisable to refer to the table presented on the ACRISS website for guidance.

🟨 How to use SIPP codes?

Each of the four letters within the SIPP code conveys a distinct piece of information - the vehicle type, the number of doors, the transmission type, and whether the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning. Certain features, such as fuel type, brake horsepower, trunk size, color, or sound system, cannot be preselected.
